Vintage wooden armchairs on their way to restoration

Yet another pair of vintage wooden armchairs that will undergo total restoration (a MUST in this case). I have already picked out the fabric….but who knows….I may change my mind another thousand times before their restoration is complete…

Upcycled slipper chair set with 70s style fabric

The brand new slipper chair set courtesy of MB&LGB has taken on a totally different look as it was reupholstered with a very particular 70s style fabric for the chairs and a neutral beige velvet imprime’ for the pouf. The dark aubergine legs were sanded and sanded again until returned to their natural color. They were then stained a warm light walnut.

Work in progress on an Eero Saarinen style chair

While I’m waiting for the fabric that I ordered for the slipper chair set to arrive, I’ve started working on this Eero Saarinen model no. 72 style chair from the 1960s. An interesting project with so many different possibilities…

At this point, they already got stripped down and are ready for the makeover!!

Linear wooden armchairs – Coppia poltroncine a pozzetto lineari

pozzetto lineari before         pozzetto lineari after

This pair of linear wooden armchairs underwent total restoration: they were disassembled, sanded, glued back together and lacquered glossy black. They also received new jute webbing, burlap and foam. Silky fabric with large red and gray floral pattern on brown bordered with red trim. Very simple yet very chic wooden armchairs.

Poltroncine molto semplici e allo stesso tempo eleganti.

Makeover of Louis XV style armchairs           Trasformazione poltroncine stile Luigi XV

Finalmente…FINITE!

Finally done! This pair really underwent a total makeover: I sanded them, glued them, raised the seats…. you name it, I had to do it! They are now lacquered in pearl gray that recalls a shade found in the jacquard fabric. Even though the color of the fabric used for the seat and back is rather strong and stands out against the Braemore Jacquard fabric, these Louis XV reproduction are very harmonious.

Work-in-progress update on the pair of linear side chairs

I mentioned in my earlier post that this cute pair of side chairs were nasty and I was not exaggerating. It took forever to remove the old fabric, stuffing and springs. Glue was used everywhere there was exposed wood and some joints were literally screwed together (that hurts!). There was no other choice than to completely disassemble them and glue them back together: four photos to describe the work-in-progress!!

My latest project….a very cute pair of linear side chairs

sedie a pozzetto 05_2014_sv

I just started working on them and the degree of nastiness of each and every chair is determined by the fact that I do or do not wear one of these

DAVVERO ALLUCINANTE!

The new and improved vintage Horse Sofa Bench

This truly was a work-in-progress!

horsebench finished_SV         horsebench side view_SV

I think I changed my mind enough times to not even remember what my first choice was…..until I found this fantastic black and white fabric with all these crazy swirls which reminded me of the wood work on the horses’ mains – a perfect match. And then there was no question which color to paint the frame.

LATEST PROJECT: HORSE SOFA BENCH

While visiting a friend a couple of weekends ago, I found this horse sofa bench (for lack of better words) hidden in a not so lightened corner of her basement and just had to bring it home! It is in fairly sound shape: I will keep you posted on the progress…

Update on the Louis XV style armchairs

A while ago I posted about these two Louis XV style armchairs that I found in the exact condition as in the photo.

The armchairs in their original condition
The armchairs in their original condition

I haven’t forgotten about them…. They are still a work in progress, so I thought I would post a photo showing what I have done so far. I sanded them, glued them, raised the seat…. you name it, I had to do it! They are now lacquered a light shade of blue-gray that picks up a color found in the back rest (the back of the chair has been reupholstered with the same fabric as the seat). As you can surely tell, the chairs are still missing the finishing touches, those details that really do make the difference and are, in my opinion,  the most important part of any makeover. I will soon post the finished project and let you know when they will be for sale.

Poltroncine a pozzetto vintage – Vintage wooden armchairs

   ∗∗∗ QUESTA COPPIA E' IN VENDITA SU ETSY.COM E SU EBAY.IT ∗∗∗
After the great reviews received for the psychedelic fabric used for the tub chair, I decided to give this old pair of wooden armchairs a grand new look and reupholster them with the same fabric. The frame of the chairs was solid enough so the time spent working on them was entirely devoted to painting them glossy black and adding new jute webbing, stuffing and of course the trendy colorful fabric. Instead of finishing them with nailhead trim, I used double welt piping made with the same fabric used on the chairs. The chair seats are intentionally different.

Poltroncine vintage stile Luigi XV – Vintage Louis XV style armhairs

Still waiting to make up my mind on the type of finishing trim for the pair of wooden armchairs which will be for sell on Etsy.com in just a few days, I started working on these two vintage Louis XV style armchairs….

1960s Slipper chairs series – chair no.3 update

poltroncina1960 sedutevintage_portfolio

Do you remember my set of four 1960s faux leather fauteuils to be used as a sectional sofa?

At the time, I only reupholstered two of them (photo below) as I wasn’t really sure I wanted all four looking alike.

I have now finished fauteuil no. 3. I decided to use the same fabric on its reverse side: I love the result, it is so yellow! Just the perfect juxtaposition.

Coppia di poltroncine da camera — Pair of slipper chairs

             seggioline della nonna white collage

Bene, bene, bene! Enjoy!

Well, well, well! As anticipated, the slipper chairs are finished. In the past, these chairs – which I found abandoned (or almost so) in a shed in the Tuscan countryside – were part of bedroom furniture. Now, they have regained their dignity and can possibly aim at finding a home in a living room, hallway or entrance. Velvety sky-blue fabric for the front and eco-friendly black leather for the back. Details include an oversized button in tune with the sky-blue fabric and brass nailhead trim that recalls the end part of the front legs (painted in glossy black). Enjoy!

I’m about to embark on yet another project. For these, I’m just glad I am up-to-date with my tetanus shot because taking them apart was really nasty!

Tub chair

Phew. What can I say….I am really surprised about how it turned out. I really got discouraged when I started taking the chair apart. Well, not the chair per se, but the layers of fabric and the cotton batting and the webbings made of jeans (a first timer) and what appeared to be hay… and all the remains of microscopic organisms that had once inhabitated the chair. It’s all new now (you can bet on that) except for the wooden frame, of course!

Psychedelic fabric with tufted buttons both for the front and the sides – gold chenille jacquard with tufted buttons for the back. Nailhead trim all around. A keeper!

1960s set of 4 slipper chairs

Found a set of 4 of these faux leather 1960s fauteuils and just stored them in nowhere land. I simply didn’t know what to do with them for many many months. I was initially attracted by their compact size and by the fact that you can place them side by side to form a two- three- or a four- seater. I then came across the perfect fabric and 2 of them went from                    this       …………………………………………….       to this.
